God has gifted Jenkins Church with a powerful prayer ministry. Prayer is a vital part of every ministry and every gathering at Jenkins. Those small groups that meet frequently such as the choir or the Sunday School classes have particularly strong prayer ministries. Jenkins provides two tools to help encourage and facilitate prayer. Our worship bulletin has a list of names who have been submitted for prayer. Additionally, we maintain an 8-page detailed prayer bulletin so prayer can be targeted at specific needs. This detailed prayer bulletin is used by each of the adult Sunday School classes as well as by the Men’s Prayer Group that meets at 6:00 am each Tuesday. It is also published on the Member’s Page of this web site for use by various prayer warriors in the congregation. In addition to prayer concerns from the congregation, a number of the members at Jenkins lead prayer ministries at their workplace and bring back prayer concerns to us. Other churches and people in the community have also recognized God at work in this prayer ministry and bring us prayer concerns. Jesus’ disciples saw how important prayer was to Jesus who would frequently slip out early to pray so they asked “Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1). Over 100 years ago Andrew Murray, inspired by that verse and other teaching in the Bible on prayer, wrote a book entitled “With Christ in the School of Prayer.” The central thought in that book was that prayer is still very important to Jesus and that even now He is continually interceding for us (Heb 7:25) and that the “School of Prayer” is open for new students. It is a ministry that the youngest child or the most mature Christian can participate in. Just go to God in prayer and Jesus will lead you. He is waiting for you to join Him in this important work and He will lead you into prayers that He is anxious to answer. |
